Greetings from Kokopelli Wildlife Area! For those that don't know, Kokopelli Wildlife Area (KWA) is a quasi-mythical wildlife refuge in California. It's not that the refuge does not exist--it does--you just won't find the name on any map that I'm aware of. I stole the name from hunters who want to have a name for their secret hunting spot without causing the certain ruination of said secret hunting spot by making the name public. Confused yet?
My vision of this blog is a place where all three people who are interested can come to learn about some of the day-to-day workings of a wildlife refuge in California. I plan to include wildlife information, stories from the field, and some of the nuts and bolts of habitat restoration and management. All of this will be beautifully illustrated by my crummy photographs (I got a new camera for Christmas).
Although the refuge will remain unnamed (due to the possible unauthorized nature of this blog), copious clues in both the photographs and the text will help the astute viewer to figure it out. If you do stumble across the real name of Kokopelli WA, all I ask is that you don't ruin the surprise for others and keep it to yourself.
